In a continued affirmation of its commitment to environmental stewardship, Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC) is proud to announce that both its Garden Course and Tampines Course have successfully renewed their GEO Certified® status in 2025, following their initial accreditation in 2022.
The renewal marks another significant milestone in TMCC’s sustainability journey, reinforcing its dedication to responsible course management, biodiversity conservation, and long-term environmental resilience. Administered by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, the certification remains the most respected and credible sustainability distinction in the sport.
Recognised Against Global Standards
The renewal follows a comprehensive third-party verification and final evaluation by Golf Environment Organisation, affirming that TMCC continues to meet the highest international benchmarks for sustainable golf operations.
In its certification summary, the GEO Foundation recognised the Garden Course for its “outstanding work to foster nature, conserve resources and support the community,” noting that the Club had successfully met all required criteria, completed independent verification, and demonstrated a clear commitment to continual improvement.
The report further highlighted that TMCC’s efforts place the Club “as a leader in advancing sustainability in golf, making important contributions in protecting nature, conserving resources and strengthening communities.”
Independent Verification and Continued Progress
As part of the renewal process, both courses underwent rigorous independent assessment across areas such as nature conservation, resource efficiency, climate action, and community engagement.
Reflecting on the Garden Course’s progress, GEO-accredited independent verifier Brad Revill noted: “The Garden Course at Tanah Merah Country Club has implemented a significant number of policies and procedures compared to my last visit, for the benefit of the operation and the property. While there are still some significant investments needed at the Golf Course Maintenance area, overall there has been great progress, and I look forward to their continual development.”
On the Tampines Course, he added: “The Tampines Course is an impressive facility that is maintained to a very high standard. The front and back of house facilities accommodate everything that the staff and guests need, and the smooth-running operation complements the exceptional leadership in place. The huge solar installation that was installed since my last visit is very impressive. I look forward to seeing the continued results of their sustainability initiatives.”
The verification underscores TMCC’s commitment not only to meeting global sustainability standards, but to continually refining its operations and investing in long-term improvements across both courses.
Tangible Progress Across Both Courses
Over the past three years, TMCC has accelerated a range of sustainability initiatives that were key to its successful recertification.
At the heart of these efforts is the Club’s transition towards renewable energy. The Tampines Course solar photovoltaic system, installed in 2023, marked a major step in reducing operational carbon emissions.
This momentum was further strengthened with the successful completion and commissioning of the solar panel installation at the Garden clubhouse in December 2024, ahead of schedule. The system is now fully operational, and together, the solar installations across both courses generate approximately 3,800 MWh of renewable energy annually, supplying about 52% of the Garden Course’s energy needs and 34% of Tampines’. This significantly reduces both operating costs and reliance on grid electricity.

Together, these initiatives represent a meaningful shift towards clean energy adoption across both courses, reinforcing TMCC’s long-term environmental strategy.

Beyond energy, TMCC has continued to deepen its commitment to biodiversity. During the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (WATC), the Club installed more than 30 bird boxes at the Tampines Course under the International Golf Federation Sustainability Programme, supporting avian wildlife and enhancing on-course habitats.
Together with native planting, improved water management, and ongoing tree-planting initiatives, these efforts continue to strengthen the ecological value of both courses.
Data-driven Agronomy Conditioning
TMCC has complemented its sustainability efforts with the adoption of advanced agronomic technologies, enhancing course conditioning through precision and data.

The USGA GS3 Smart Ball, integrated with the DEACON App, enables the agronomy team to measure green speed, firmness, smoothness, and trueness in real time. This ensures consistent, championship-ready surfaces. Supporting this, the FieldScout™ Moisture Meter provides accurate soil moisture readings for targeted irrigation and healthier turf.
These technologies proved instrumental during the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (WATC), where green speeds were consistently maintained between 10’8” and 11’0” across all competition and practice greens. The data reflected exceptional consistency in both speed and firmness, delivering fair and reliable playing conditions for elite international players.
In parallel, TMCC has begun trialling autonomous robotic mowers as part of its course maintenance programme, exploring further gains in efficiency, consistency, and sustainable turf management.
The result is a more proactive, data-driven approach to course management, balancing daily playability for Members and their guests with the demands of world-class competition.
TMCC Leadership Perspective
TMCC President Ronald Ong said: “This renewal is a strong endorsement of our continued efforts since first achieving GEO Certified® status in 2022. It reflects the collective commitment across the Club to operate responsibly, reduce our environmental footprint, and contribute meaningfully to climate action through golf.”
TMCC General Manager Elliott Gray added: “Sustainability is embedded in how we manage and evolve both courses. From renewable energy to agronomic innovation and biodiversity initiatives, this renewal reflects tangible progress across all aspects of our operations. We will continue to build on this momentum, benefiting not only TMCC but also the wider environment and the golfing ecosystem.”

Looking ahead
With GEO Certification renewed through 2028, TMCC will continue to advance its sustainability roadmap, with a stronger focus on climate resilience, habitat enhancement, and technological innovation.
In an increasingly urban landscape, the Garden and Tampines Courses stand as compelling examples of how golf can coexist with nature, delivering not only exceptional playing conditions, but also measurable environmental value.
As TMCC moves forward, its guiding principle remains clear: every fairway, green, and operational decision should contribute to a more sustainable future for the game.
